My work revolves around the intersection of language, identity, and urban environments. Through a multi-disciplinary approach using photography, painting, drawing, and installations, I explore how minority identities, particularly within public spaces, shape and are shaped by the cultural, and social texture of cities they inhabit. This investigation extends into the broader themes of cultural exchange and the layering of identity within the Nordic and Baltic regions, where I am currently working/living.
Language, as both a cultural and personal expression, plays a pivotal role in my work. I am particularly fascinated by its visual and gestural forms, and how these forms interact within the public spaces of modern cities. My recent projects examine the complexity of identity formation among minority communities, focusing on the narratives of Swedish-speaking minorities in Finland and how their stories inform the urban cultural landscape.
By engaging in a process that blends social science research and artistic experimentation, I aim to shed light on the often-overlooked stories and identities that inhabit our cities. My practice pushes beyond conventional representations, embracing abstraction and conceptual thinking to reveal the hidden layers of human experience in the urban environment. Through this work, I invite viewers to reflect on the ways in which language, space, and identity intersect and transform our understanding of belonging and community.
